How do I create a website logo?

I would like to add the necessary code to my website to add a logo in the tab of my browser, such as the cool little green square I see for this page, or the f logo for Facebook. Tragically, I don’t even know what they’re called, let alone how to do it. Can anyone decipher my request and point me in the right direction please?

It is called a Favicon. Use this link to upload a picture, it will create the Favicon for you and you upload it to your site in the same directory as index.html:
