Does anyone know what program or website design software was used to make facebook, myspace or bebo?
I am currently going through the design and development stages of creating my own social networking website, I would like to create the site myself rather than pay someone thousands to do it, What i want to know is what the most popular sites like facebook, myspace and bebo use to create their site, is it dreamweaver or does it require programming knowledge? thanks
If your website needs user interactions, you will need to know a programming language.
All 3 sites use XHTML, CSS and Javascript for its user interface (The bits you see) however behind the scenes is..
Facebook is written in PHP (http://www.facebook.com/home.php)
Bebo is written in Java (http://www.bebo.com/PleaseSignIn.jsp)

Any language will do tho, I would recommend PHP, or Python. Both well documented, flexible and easy to change to your needs when your website grows.
XHTML+CSS+Javascript (Frontend, what people see)
PHP/Java/Python (Processing what the user does)
Mysql/Mssql/ProgresSQL (A Database to store information)
