Is Islamophobia in Europe for a new Holocaust?

After the tragic murder of Mr. Marwa El-Sherbini, most Egyptian newspapers gave wide coverage to death, describing the veiled woman as a "martyr" and suggesting that the murderer was motivated by a hatred of Islam.

I also saw it was too long since Egyptian bloggers have come together under the same flag, but that crime was a reason to join again to condemn international media to ignore such incidents against Muslims in the West.

People are also using Twitter, blogs, Facebook and YouTube to spread the news and expressed their thoughts on what happened.

Therefore, we have seen a group on Facebook called "Marwa Al-Sherbini, always going to be Remember," which drew an impressive 1 403 members within hours.

The Most comments Marwa El-Sherbini said it was the latest victim of fanaticism, hatred and Islamophobia in Europe.

It It is very easy to understand the anger that the murder of Marwa El-Sherbini in Germany led in Egypt, but there were some questions in my mind that I have no answer too

Is Islamophobia in Europe for a new Holocaust?

Then 'Clash of civilizations "should be avoided if we realize that intercultural dialogue and mutual respect is the only way forward?

Is there an inherent tension between the secular liberal agenda "modern" in Europe and the "traditional" model of society associated with (Muslim) migrants?

The EU enlargement has brought new opportunities for many but also creates new divisions and inequalities. Fortress Europe borders are gone, but the migration and asylum policy remain inhumane close. Stereotypes difficult international climate, and reinforcing the fear of "other" is a serious problem in Europe today.

I posed these questions to the experts for answers, and I had the opportunity to interview Spielhaus Riem (a German scholar in the field of Islamic studies and teaches in the Department of South Asia Institute of Asian and African Studies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin), who responded: "I do not use the term Islamophobia for many reasons. For me, this seems like it was actually a good descriptive term. This means that starting to be afraid of the people of Islam, which, after the terrorist acts carried out on behalf of this religion is an understandable reaction, and even many Muslims feel insecure in this context, if they know that is not in the heart of the religion that creates violence and hatred.

But fear of being (phobia) is separated into the description and analysis of the more serious side to carry out acts of violence and hatred as suggesting different ways. Another aspect we have to talk in Europe is that Muslims feel excluded from parts of the business because of your religion or lack of education or economic power. All this leads to the conclusion that reality requires a complex approach that does not cover the term Islamophobia.

Therefore, I prefer people who feel discomfort with Islam or Muslims, exclusion of the Islamic community and Muslim society in different ways and anti-Muslim or anti-Islamic discourse. Finally, and this seems to be the case of shocking events last week in Dresden, there were several acts of violence perpetrated against Muslims and Islamic holy places such as mosques, and for the first time a family was deprived of his mother, his wife and daughter and even the life of an unborn child just because he was Muslim.

– Is Islamophobia in Europe for a new Holocaust?

I've been thinking about this issue and am impressed by the

question itself – To be honest. NO! I do not think so.

Spielhaus not believe and hope that the current situation in Europe could lead to another holocaust.

"Order a Muslim living in Germany appears to be very cruel or showing that demand is not know much about the Holocaust. We can not anywhere in Europe today to see anything even remotely connected machine similar to the extinction of Jewish life in Europe during World War II.

However, the unimaginable brutality of the Third Reich Excluding Germany and the Jews of Germany in European history, you must be a strong reminder that any exclusion of persons belonging to ethnic origin, skin color or religion should not be tolerated or ignored, but must be fought by a strong statement of society. "Following Spielhaus.

"While many Muslims in this country and Egypt may be afraid

About the officials' reluctance to discuss recent events in Germany

is characterized more by what their citizens involved have to say and then

Joint Declaration of the Jews and Muslims and against all

hostility against Islam and Muslims can have an important bearing

be underestimated. He said.

In the last days of almost every game Germans made strong statements against the hatred of Islam and urged the German government to take action against anti-Muslim sentiments and acts like what happened to Dresden.

Many may believe in intercultural dialogue as a form promising an end to the myth of the "clash of civilizations" but that dialogue must go through various challenges and tests to prove it then.

So can "clash of civilizations" should be avoided if we realize that intercultural dialogue and mutual respect is the only way forward?

Riem Spielhaus: The dialogue of civilizations "reflects and perpetuates the dichotomy introduced by Samuel Huntington in the political world with his theory of influence. Clashes and conflicts are also believe to be overcome, if people accept equal standing of their citizens and their commitment with mutual understanding and building societies, neighborhoods, environment and humanity. Some people find the strength of his commitment to religion, others to find other sources that drive, but a difference to be met if the goal is the same.

But there is an inherent tension between the secular-liberal agenda "Modern"

Europe and the more "traditional" model of society related to

(Muslim) migrants?

No! Question denied! These simplistic ideas of Muslims and immigrants as foreign and / or other lead to Europe excluding and alienation. Many Muslims in Europe are first of all Europeans, European by birth, conviction and citizenship and Muslim faith. Many of the problems we face today are of some European companies and countries of origin to identify Muslims with immigrants and, therefore, not as parts of the societies they live, but many Muslims, especially young people aspire to be accepted as Germans, French or British. The media coverage, political debates and perpetuates the exclusion of doctrinal

Muslims in the stories, which may be outside the European example to stigmatize immigrants and businesses contribute to a discourse of exclusion. We must all ask ourselves the following question: When is to stop immigration? What generation? Not enough room?

Then she said: "I can not answer the question about what "Islam" in Europe – the statement is broad to carry any meaning. O Islam is a revelation – is the same everywhere, but people the shape of their practice and understanding. Anyone who understands Islam and how Muslims live their religion – the understanding that no – but we found some confusion. But in this case, replace "Islam" with "lives of Muslims" or "Muslim" seems to make sense.

Thus, Muslims in Europe seems to be mostly moderate. Not all Muslims seem to be religious, though – please take a look at the display of religion to answer the question. Contains great deal of interesting information and it is too late to rewrite. You can find a good approach to understand the term "religious" because it really is hard to describe what it means. And this study gives a good interpretation of the term, and that included the responses of 3,000 Muslims in Germany … "

On the other hand Dr.Abdeslam Maghraoui Associate Professor of the Practice of the Faculty of Political Science and essential in the Duke Islamic Studies Center defined Islamophobia as fear, hatred, resentment toward Islam, Islamic culture, and peoples. It is often irrational, but reasonable people may also show symptoms. Islamophobia is based on the belief that Islam and Muslims are violent, even, back, and resist modernity.

He added that Islamophobia has gained much influence and is much more widespread than we think. The recent European elections show that right-wing extremist parties in many European countries (Spain, England, Holland, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Germany …) have a strong popular base. These anti-immigrant parties, anti-Arab, and definitely anti-Muslim. However, do not think any other Holocaust in Europe is likely.

He also stressed that intercultural dialogue is important, but often not enough. I saw many discussions of interreligious and intercultural dialogue is frank and courteous. But once you leave the conference or meeting to another reality hits you. With dialogue, focus is on civic rights and duties, the relationship between citizenship and culture / religion, the limits and possibilities multiculturalism. These questions are very important, especially for letting Muslims in the West.

"In principle, that should not be contradictions. Argues that liberal democracy is culturally neutral between different cultures, religions and races. The United States is the most advanced in this respect. Europe is far from the public is calm (not official) includes cultural elements. A Muslim born in Europe is less likely to feel part of Europe, if he or she lives under Islamic principles. The problem is that Muslims, express or live their spiritual life differently. Some are moderate, others are cautious, others may include extreme versions or interpretations of Islam. The problem is that foreign (Or non-Muslims) are not always able to distinguish the different forms of Islam. So they are really confused. "Maghraoui said.

And it is agreed that the overwhelming Most Muslims living in Europe are moderate Muslims. For decades, millions of Muslims in France, Spain, Holland, Italy, United Kingdom and Belgium have been living in peace. But racism is a problem in many countries (France, Germany in particular).

And ask about the role of media promoting diversity and religious tolerance in Europe, said: "The role of the media is to expose cases of racism, hatred and Islamophobia. And for the media to address social problems in Muslim communities (women's rights, acceptance of religious differences, respect for life of Europeans, etc. ..). It is not helpful to blame only the European or Muslim communities. "He said.
