As a parent, you may wonder what you can do to help your child learn how * * to talk. Surprisingly, most children acquire natural language simply by listening to the daily experiences for others to speak. Parents sometimes try to "revive" the word of their children in different ways. Some of these intuitive methods are useful, other methods may discourage children from attempting to speak.
Rather than list things you should not do, Let me share with you 3 techniques that I use as a speech therapist to promote language development. You may recognize that you already use these methods on a intuitively, without realizing! Let me invite you to spend some time each day using these techniques to communicate with your child.
The first tool available for you is simply to acknowledge and repeat what your child says, but only add some more details to what his son said. For example, if your child says "" by "juice" and he knows his son is asking for more, you can say "I want more juice?". This will provide additional information on how to pronounce the word "juice", as well as demonstrating the expanded grammar. In fact, this technique is known as the "expansion" and is a useful concept for parents to understand. (Incidentally, this is not expected to return your child to repeat words like a parrot! You are simply providing additional information – a smile – As part of a natural event.)
The second tool you can use it to comment on what you do or what your child while the event or activity event. Again, does not expect your child to repeat something. It simply means that you provide a descriptive account of what happens. I suggest keep your sentences short for young children or preschoolers who speak in sentences and use simple words or two sentences of vocabulary to children who are beginning to speak in simple words. It could think that a description of an event.
A third tool is to understand, accept and enjoy the pronunciation of his son used in his attempts to speak. Too often, parents try to correct the language of their children, with the effect of deterring of speech, or become a control problem. In acknowledging their understanding what the child says, and repeat the words (as mentioned above), increases the likelihood that your child's desire to keep talking. We really want that communication between you and your child to be an enjoyable event. Pronunciation of development is how children learn!
